Photographer Sally Mann made a brief stop in the Triangle Friday, May 20th delivering a lecture at Meredith College. In a presentation in which Mann was equal parts raconteur and motivational speaker, no one should have left disappointed.
Reading passages from her latest book,
Hold Still: A Memoir with Photographs, Mann held her audience spellbound throughout. While sharing tales of her childhood, images from her youth projected on a large screen behind her.

Taking questions from the audience, one overarching theme that came through, and a point she repeated several times was: "...make the best... work you can make." "Keep making work..." "Don't stop making work..." "...if you do they can't ignore you. You will be found".

Hold Still: A Memoir with Photographs is a fascinating look at a fascinating artist, and just one more illustration that like many great artists, the life they lead is, in many ways, their greatest work of art.
