Check this out: Upcoming Exhibition: Altered Narratives

If you are planning on being in the Charleston, SC area anytime between March 19th and April 1st be sure to stop in at the City Gallery at Waterfront Park and check out the exhibit: Altered Narratives: 19th Century Techniques Merge with 21st Century Visions. The exhibit features the "alternative process" work of 12 photographers including Raleigh's own Diana Bloomfield. The exhibition will open with a reception on Friday, March 18 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Often thought relegated to the scrapheap of photographic history, many of the original photographic processes are alive and well as this exhibit no doubt will show. In an era of zeros and ones where so much work never makes it off the back-lit screen, there is something eminently satisfying about holding and viewing a well crafted hand-made print in any one of the original processes. Platinum, cyanotype, and gum bichromate, to name but a few, possess a quality unrivaled by any other methods. If you don't believe me, go see this exhibit.
